    When viewed from the summit of Pikes Peak, the Black Forest looks like a large black mass. Hence the name “Black Forest”. The area covers approximately 125 square miles and is at an average elevation of 7300 feet in elevation. The northern border is Douglas County while the southern border extends down to Woodmen Road.
